Sands Of Time

Two of us in the sands of time
Dropping through an hour glass
Rising and falling
like
mercury in a capillary tube
Being tumbled and tossed
like gravel in the heart of the waves
Going somewhere, going nowhere fast
Trying to present a past that has no future
A past when
butterflies still rumbled bellies
when flowers were good for apologies
when tomorrow looked brighter
when burdens weighed lighter
Two of us in the sands of time
waiting for hormones to decompose
waiting for the death of chemistry
Tick-tock, tick-tock
