The Girl Who Spoke French

My series of poems called “The Girl”. This is the first one: it was written a while back. Hope you enjoy it.

She utters not a word
Her hands are chained
Tonight, she’ll die by the sword
but none complained

By witchcraft they say
She killed her mother
While kids die every day
Still, they’ll kill another

Alas! The crowd learns the truth
They help plead for mercy
For Pete’s sake, she’s hardly a youth
She rejoices saying “Merci, Merci”
